Lord Camden Inn is Going Green through many Environmental Initiatives

The Lord Camden Inn is proud to have been recently recognized and certified by the Maine DEP as an Environmental Leader in the lodging industry. This annual certification recognizes efforts and initiatives to help save energy, conserve water, reduce waste, use environmentally friendly cleaning solutions, and purchase locally grown foods.

The Lord Camden Inn is committed to protecting the environment, the health and safety of our employees, and the community in which we conduct our business. It is our policy to seek
improvements throughout our business operations to lessen our impact on the local and global environment. We are committed to pollution prevention, continual improvement and meeting or exceeding all environmental regulatory requirements.

Preference shall be given to suppliers and vendors whose products have environmentally friendly attributes that maximize Post Consumer Recycled content, minimize toxicity and packaging, or have any other environmentally preferable attributes, with minimal sacrifice to price, quality, and delivery requirements. Below are just a few of the many “Environmental Initiatives” the Lord Camden Inn has recently implemented:

The Lord Camden Inn has nearly completed a total replacement of all incandescent light bulbs to more energy efficient compact fluorescents in both common areas and guestrooms. It has been calculated that the replacement of just the interior hallway lights alone to CFL fixtures will save more than 36,000 kwH in electricity per year, reducing green house gas emissions by nearly 36 tons.

The Inn has recently switched to EcoLab's "EcoLogic" Green Seal Certified cleaning solutions and detergents for use in our laundry, guestrooms and kitchen. This environmentally responsible product line is non-toxic, non-corrosive, safe for aquatic life, biodegradable, free of known carcinogens, and contains no chlorine. By using this product line, we provide a safer, cleaner and healthier environment than ever before.

We are excited to now offer Fair Trade & Organic coffees from Green Mountain served fresh daily in our breakfast room, lobby, and as single cup selections in all of our guestrooms. Our signature breakfast French Roast is roasted for a bold, but sweet intensity. Our in-room single cup coffee is Newman's Own Special Blend, an inspired blend of medium and darker roasted coffees that is rich and robust.

In an effort to protect the environment through conservation of water and decreased use of detergents, the Inn has implemented a voluntary towel and linen re-use program. Guests staying more than one night have the option of having their linens laundered every three days instead of daily. Laminated informational cards are placed in the each guestroom that inform guests about the program and how to participate.
